We’ve known that Yuri would be Michael the Archangel for a long time now, perhaps most of this year. However, deciding which direction to take it in was a challenge. We thought about going more old fashioned, more like the typical angelic depictions that you see in art.
But then that didn’t seem to fit the feel we were going for and the person that Yuri is today. So we went with a modern, urban feel where the clothes were concerned. We both agreed that what makes a modern day Michael the Archangel so perfect is that you don’t expect the modern urban version to suddenly sprout wings and a sword and that makes him just as powerful and profound a character as ever.
Yuri carries so many of the traits that I think of when I think of Michael the Archangel. He is brave and fierce, he will always come to the aid of the underdog, he has a strong sense of justice and of mercy. And even when faced with challenges and difficulties he knows how to rise to the occasion with strength and dignity.
Our family costume photo shoot traditions started with him back in 2007 when he was just a tiny adorable little peacock and we have done many awesome costumes over the years. But this is one of my favourites. It is very awe-inspiring to see your children grow into their own people, to grow in character and to see their personalities develop and be shaped. At nearly 13, he is changing before my eyes daily and I am forever grateful to be a part of that journey.
